In year 2 we also follow a creative curriculum. We build upon the strong secure foundations of learning the children have received from their Foundation stage years and year 1, and successfully take them on to the next stage of their learning journey!A great emphasis is placed upon the children becoming autonomous, independent and motivated learners.

 

Throughout the day children are given set time called ‘Independent Learning’, this is where children are encouraged to be active learners and free flow between the inside and outside area. During this time activities are set up for the children to explore and complete independently or with adult support. Literacy and Numeracy are taught separately during the day, Science and the foundation subjects are taught under the heading ‘topic’. 

 

The topics covered in year 2 are as followed:

·         Global Gardens

·         Fire!

·         Oceans and Seas

 

 

In year 2 we get up to the following:

 

We are learning to become reflective thinkers and suggest how to improve our work.

 

We cooperate and work together as a team.

 

In numeracy we are learning to become problem solvers.

 

As artists we will be looking at famous artists such as Van Gogh and Monet. We will look at their painting styles and the similarities and differences of their work. We will try and recreate their paintings and suggest how we could improve our work.

 

As scientists we will be exploring our local environments looking for mini beasts and different plants. 

 

As global learners we will be looking at gardens from countries around the world. We will look at food history and see where in the world different fruits and vegetables come from.
