Welcome to Hawthorn Park Lower School.

Hawthorn Park is a school that acknowledges the central role of high quality basic skills of numeracy, literacy and information and communication technology. Our aim is to enable our children to make progress beyond what would be expected, given consideration of initial attainment and background factors.

Hawthorn Park Lower School has held the Basic Skills Quality Mark for primary schools since 1998 awarded for the fourth time in 2007, the first lower school in Bedfordshire to receive the award 4 times. We also received the DfES School Achievement award in 2001 for the excellent value-added work and the National Healthy School Award, for ongoing work to promote Healthy Lifestyles. We are completing the International School Award.

We are a socially inclusive school welcoming all abilities, race, creed, gender and disability. Equal opportunities are given to all. We provide a purposeful, stimulating, emotionally stable environment where the children wish to come and learn. We develop the social skills, attitudes, self worth and values of our children to enable them to become valued members of the future community, through incorporating the 5 aspects of Every Child Matters.

Many Out of School Hours clubs are run, such as Gym, Basketball, Football, Yoga, ICT, Newspaper Club and Line Dancing. We wish our children to develop an interest, leisure activity or sport, which will remain with them in adult life. We seek to develop our children's ability to think, to adapt and to take responsibility for actions based on reasoned choices.

We are an active member of the Healthy Schools Project and received praise for our Peer Support Scheme. We have good extened school provision, including a Breakfast and After School Club and work in partnership with other schools in the area. We have a Neighbourhood Centre on site to promote community links.

Hawthorn Park welcomes children aged 3 to 9 years old. We have a Nursery Unit, a Reception unit and two classes per year group through out school.
